Happy New Year!

Here's to the Jan edition of I don't even know what you call this

Things I Pondered While Overseas

Quick context - I spent the majority of December in SE Asia with my parents. Here are some things I thought about:

  • Are our lifestyle expectations too high? Seeing how people lived in Singapore, Vietnam, and Thailand. These people were chilling on THE GROUND outside drinking, eating, or just chilling with friends. On sidewalks or random public areas. And they looked happy. Maybe it doesn’t take all that much?

  • Everything is so cheap: Are we paying way too much by living in the U.S? You can live like a king for less than $1,000 USD in Vietnam or Thailand. Got my wheels turning a little bit.

  • Working hard is not the answer: Thinking about the masseuse ladies in SE Asia - they output 10x more energy throughout the day than I do typing away behind a computer in a stupid office and make 50x less. Work smarter, not harder.

  • The answer is skills: Speaking of working smarter, many people in these countries learned English as a skill and that automatically 3x’d their income. What skills can we be learning to 3x ours?

Word Of Year

I saw some business guru I admire doing this and thought it was cool. There many ways I distracted myself in 2024 so my word of the year is Focus. It helps to come back to the word every time my monkey brain wants to doom scroll or find the next city to run off to.

Take a second to figure what your word is!

How To Reflect and Make A Great 2025

Some good questions I asked myself to reflect on the past year were:

  • What went well (and didn’t) and why?

  • What did I avoid last year that I need to face head on?

  • What do I need to improve on?

  • How can I live more authentically in 2025?

  • What do I need to let go of?

  • When did I feel the most joy?

  • What do I want to become this year?
